In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people angry and has widely been considered as a bad move.
Cheers daled, have you got wind direction for Tuesday morning thru' to afternoon? I'm seeing North to North West in the morning shifting to South / South West in the afternoon - are you getting the same?
I've got a 10 - 20 knot north on Tuesday morning, swinging west 20-30 knot late tuesday through wedensday, then south west 15 - 25 knots early Thursday morning.

Have used it for a while now, especially the private weather stations.Originally Posted by rumbles

I got that SMS from VicPolice also.
Not sure what database they are using for their numbers.
Perhaps sending via all carriers; Optus, Telstra etc.
Good to see something like this happening. Perhaps they could also refer to a website for further info, as well as ABC radio.

Me too, This warning has already been downgraded from daled's original though.
Waiting for BOM's next update with interest, Wunderground isn't suggesting high numbers ...
The warning took a while to get around all of the carriers.
If this is part of the new emergency response system and it takes this long, it could be too late for some people.
Better than nothing I suppose.
Its about time that the useless pricks used the available technology. There has been NO excuse for this.
Send to towers in affected areas, could have saved LOTS of lives.

Big winds to tear across southeast
Brett Dutschke, Monday March 2, 2009 - 14:58 EDT
Winds are increasing in southeastern states and may become strong enough to bring down trees and make bushfires very difficult to control in the next 24 to 48 hours.
These winds are being whipped up by the approach of a strong cold front and low, the most intense system in the last two-to-three months.
Several factors will however put a dampner on the winds; the lack of extreme heat, increasing cloud-cover and the onset of rain will
make northerlies less intense than what they would otherwise be.
The strongest winds will generally be the northerlies ahead of the system rather than than the colder, gusty southwesterlies in its wake.
Northerlies will reach their peak on Tuesday in South Australia, Victoria and western New South Wales and on Wednesday in Tasmania and eastern NSW.
The northerlies will initially be quite dry and warm leading to extreme fire danger across a large part of SA and Victoria.
They are still likely to gust to 60 to 90 km/h in most areas but may get as strong as 120km/h on the Alps.
Lighter, but fresh and gusty southwesterlies will persist on Wednesday and Thursday, making this the windiest few days since the day
of extreme heat in early February.

Give em' a chance, this is a first for Victoria, and maybe even Australia. I'm sure over time systems will improve, and they may even be able to target effected areas.
