2013 Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix - Frequencies and Scanning

    Hello

I thought I would start the thread early and hopefully encourage some input from some other users.

I'm an F1 junkie so I'll be taking my Uniden to the race again this year!

    Here's what I'll be looking for :
MSS security were on 494.15MHz in previous years.
F1 teams - probably on encrypted digital
Race Control - can usually get this
Any Emergency Services on "special event" channels (on MMR)
    V8 Supercars
    Aircraft

Most of the published frequencies available on the net are previous years events so it would be great to get some up-to-date information.

    Thanks
    Ben.

    Hello Ben,

This is what I'd suggest you try for this season at Melbourne:

    McLaren
McLaren have been testing with Kenwood Nexedge digital radios. We saw these last year but they were never used during a race. Freqs to try:
    147.500 McLaren Digital
    149.375 McLaren Digital
    151.625 McLaren Digital
    448.875 McLaren Digital
There are 3 other UHF freqs to find (1 is the UHF rebro of one of the VHF car channel freqs, the other 2 will be simplex pit channels)

    Toro Rosso
    164.0375 173.8Hz Vergne
    164.850 94.8Hz Ricciardo
    164.9125 94.8Hz Ricciardo Alt Freq
    165.0125 103.5Hz STR Pit Ch in Italian/Eng
There will probably be another Pit Channel 67.0Hz tone, likely 164 - 165 mhz.
The mobile side of the car/pit channels will be 158-161Mhz.

    Pirelli
    166.2125 136.5Hz
    Mobile will be around 172Mhz

    Lotus
    457.550 85.4Hz Kimi race engineer-to-car
    457.675 91.5Hz or 218.1Hz Grosjean race engineer-to-car
There will also be car-to-pit Lotus channels (typically 467-469Mhz): Kimi will be using a freq with a tone of 79.7Hz, Grosjean 97.4Hz.
    457.875 Maybe Lotus related

All other F1 team comms are TETRA digital and encrypted 420-430Mhz Base, 410-420 Mobile. This band is also used by the FIA for their TETRA comms.

I'm interested to know if anyone has up to date 2013 V8 freqs (say from Adelaide) please.

Thanks - that sounds right that this was indeed DMR, but actually NXDN (Kenwood Nexedge) and not MotoTRBO.

There is an article about it on the radiocomms.com.au site called Putting-the-V8-into-radio-communications which confirms to move to Nexedge this season. Some of the teams such as Triple 8 have been using these NXDN capable radios for a while now but operate them in analogue.

matt's statement is right race control was using mototrbo radios at the clipsal 500 this year but some officials were using the older style motorola mts2000 handhelds and the rest a mixed combination of both mototrbo and motorola radios

Thanks guys. So what's the best way to listen : program channels, band search or use close call? I have not had much success using close call......does the signal have to be REALLY strong?

Re: 2013 Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix - Frequencies and Scanning

Security are definitely on 494.15MHz. This is running off eureka tower I think.

I picked up an open transmission around 170MHz. No voice, just static. Is this supposed to be part of the race control system?
    Cheers

These Toro Rosso frequencies have now been confirmed as being in use for this race by f1scanner members:
164.0375 [assume will be 173.8Hz and used by Vergne]
164.850 [assume will be 94.8Hz and used by Ricciardo]
165.0125 [assume will be 103.5Hz and used by STR Pit Ch in Italian/Eng]

Thanks for the info on the MotoTRBO radios for V8 Robert.

Hi, I found a radio site on the spench maps. It appears to be outdated Comgroup frequencies running off the Parkview Hotel in St.Kilda road. I thought this was race control, race stewards, etc. Can anyone confirm please? See pic. below.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

Yes, 132.1MHz AM is Yarra control - not very busy but heard them dropping parachuters this morning.
Missed the hornets on 135.7MHz AM
    Helis are on 127.55MHz AM

Best lap time 1min 32sec in practice so far...
