Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or comments regarding the use of a window mounted type antenna for use in the car with a Uniden BCD396XT scanner. Currently exploring options for my car to boost reception while driving. I have a Holden VE SS Sportswagon and would rather not have a antenna on the bonnet but may have too? Might look like too much of a cop car then!
Haven't really herd much about window mounts, as to whether they are any good or not so any comments would be great
Cheers

Fairly common to see single band, through glass (stick on) antennas. Not so common to find dual band (VHF & UHF) glass mount antennas.
The other problem with 'through glass' antennas, is that they are very narrow banded. In other words, you can get an on glass antenna to work
quite well at 468Mhz, but it will work like a brick at 420Mhz.
I think Radio Shack in the US used to sell a V/UHF glass mount scanner antenna. I don't know how well they worked though.
Then again, almost anything is better than using a handheld scanner inside a car with the stock rubber duck.

You've already got an antenna (AM/FM) on the vehicle why not use that for scanning as well?
An antenna splitter (available from eBay and a member here) essentially allows you to add in an additional line from your existing car antenna and route it to your scanner, no onglass, no external antennas purely a stealthy approach to scanner installation![]()
